Villa sign another Young

Luke Young will be joining his namesake Ashley Young at Aston Villa after the former England fringe player agreed terms on a 3 year deal. Earlier in the day Villa announced they had agreed a £5m fee with Middlesbrough for the 29 year old former Spurs man and had been given permission to conduct a medical and discuss terms. Upon arrival Young admitted that Villa was an option he could’ve taken a year earlier but didn’t elaborate on the reasons why he snubbed Birmingham for Teeside in 2007:

“I’m really pleased to be here at Villa. It’s happened quite quickly. One minute I was training up at Boro and the next I’m down here for a medical. Obviously I’m glad to be here now but it could have been a year earlier. There was interest last summer but it didn’t quite happen for whatever reason. I’m just glad to find myself here now.”

Young was capped 7 times for England under Sven Goran Eriksson back in 2005 but is unlikely ever to feature for his country again since the emergence of Micah Richards and Wes Brown’s solid performances at right back for club and country.
