Liverpool have completed the £19m signing of striker Robbie Keane from Tottenham despite the north London clubs reluctance to sell their captain. Spurs have also withdrawn their threat to report Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez to the Premier League over alleged tapping up of Keane via the Englsih media. Keane was at Anfield today to undergo a medical and agree personal terms and emerged around 6pm signing autographs for a number of youngsters outside the clubs training complex. Shortly afterwards the club announced the signing of the Irish International on a 4 year deal who admitted the chance to play for the club he supported as a boy was too much to turn down:

“As a fan joining Liverpool is a lifelong dream of mine and one I couldn’t let pass me by.”

Keane is the 5th player Benitez has signed this season but by far the most expensive and may cast doubt over Liverpools ability to bring in Gareth Barry, though many Englsih papers are claiming the move will now have to be funded by the sales of either Xabi Alonso, Jermaine Pennant, Alvaro Arbeloa or Andriy Voronin.
