Sir Elton John is the flamboyant rock star who bought into his favourite football team Watford F.C in 1973 becoming the vice chairman. When John joined the club they were languishing in the 4th division of English football, but the installation of a young manager and players saw them rocket up the divisions into the top flight. The young manager was one Graham Taylor who would go on to manage England and the youngsters he brought in were the likes of John Barnes and Luther Blisset who would go onto to play for Liverpool and AC Milan respectivley. The pinncale for the club came in 1984 when they reached the FA cup final losing narrowly to Everton 2-0, but a number of high profile players left after this and Taylor eventually resigned in 1987, with the hornets being relegated a year later.
In 1990 Sir Elton sold his stake in Watford to Jack Petchey and became life president of the club, a year later he returned to the board but resigned again in 1992 but to this day still remains the president of the club.
