Aston Villa stormed past Manchester City in a 6 goal second half shoot out at Villa park thanks largely to a Gabriel Agbonlahor hat trick. City had lost highly rated Bulgarian striker Valeri Bozhinov in a freak accident in the warm up which will now see him miss another six months of his fledgling Premier League career, and with Jo at the Olympics, Vassel and Benjani also out injured, youngster Ched Evans had to step into the breach.

It was another youngster, England U21 star Agbonlahor who had the major impact on the game running rampant through the City backline missing Richard Dunne.  The game hung in the balance after Brazilian Elano had equalised Carew’s opener from the spot but Villa were home and dry after netting 3 times in 7 minutes. Corluka added a second goal in the dying moments but it was scant consolation for Mark Hughes men.
